A lecturer at the Kano State Polytechnic, Aliyu Hamza Abdullahi, was brutally attacked in his office on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The attack was allegedly orchestrated by a female student and her boyfriend.
According to the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Auwal Ismail Bagwai, the incident occurred around 2 pm while Abdullahi was attending to students. The female student, whose identity remains undisclosed, entered the office with her boyfriend, claiming the lecturer was an obstacle to her academic aspirations.
The confrontation escalated when the boyfriend produced a cutlass and attempted to strike the lecturer, aiming for his head. The swift intervention of nearby students and staff prevented the situation from turning fatal.
The lecturer sustained injuries to his hands while attempting to defend himself and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. The security officers of the institution were called upon to handle the case, but the student and her boyfriend have not been apprehended.
The institution’s security agencies are actively investigating the matter, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice. The Public Relations Officer assured that the perpetrators would not go scot-free, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its staff and students.
