Mrs. Edna Ibru (née Park), former Miss Nigeria and First Lady of Delta State, has passed away at the age of 80.
The wife of Olorogun Felix Ibru, the first civilian Governor of Delta State (1991–1992), died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in a London hospital after a brief illness.
Trailblazer and Beloved Matriarch
Edna Ibru was crowned Miss Nigeria in 1964, becoming the first Nigerian and African to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant. She leaves behind two children from her marriage to the late Governor Felix Ibru.
The Ibru family of Agbarha-Otor Kingdom in Delta State confirmed her passing in a statement issued by her son, Dr. Paul Ibru, on Saturday.
“Our amazing mother passed into glory on Wednesday 15, January 2025, after a brief illness,” the statement read.
The family described her as a vibrant and loving personality who touched many lives:
- Mediator and nurturer: Known for her love for people and her ability to mediate and connect with others.
- Larger-than-life presence: Outrageously humorous, deeply caring, and full of engaging stories.
“We never expected her to leave us so soon, but we cannot question the will of God in her precious life,” the family added.

Dr. Paul Ibru noted that burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
Edna Ibru’s legacy as a trailblazer, compassionate leader, and devoted mother will be cherished by all who knew her.
