Troops from the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade reportedly neutralized at least six terrorists during a coordinated operation targeting Lakurawa terrorists in Gudu Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The mission was conducted under Operation Fansan Yamma and was detailed in a statement released on Thursday by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre.
The statement highlighted that the operation involved a fierce firefight, during which five soldiers lost their lives.
“The troops recovered the following items from the operation, four AK-47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one box of 12.7mm ammunition,” it stated.
While the military celebrated the successful neutralization of the terrorists, it expressed profound grief over the loss of the five soldiers who paid the ultimate price.
“Despite this success, the operation came at a heavy cost, as five gallant soldiers tragically lost their lives in the line of duty,” the statement emphasized.
In the wake of the operation, the military called on residents in Gudu LGA and neighboring areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to terrorism or other security concerns.
The statement underscored the critical role of public cooperation in ensuring peace and protecting lives, urging communities to remain proactive in supporting security efforts.
This operation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the military in combating terrorism in the region. While successes are achieved, they are often accompanied by heavy sacrifices. The loss of the five soldiers serves as a stark reminder of the risks undertaken by security personnel to safeguard the nation.
Residents have been encouraged to actively contribute to security measures by reporting threats promptly, ensuring a collective effort in maintaining stability and peace.
