Police in Limpopo are investigating a violent attack on two nurses at Chuene Clinic, located outside Polokwane, in the early hours of Friday, January 10. The incident, described as brutal, has prompted widespread condemnation.
According to police spokesperson Brig Hlulani Mashaba, the attack occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. when an unidentified suspect entered the clinic premises through the guardroom, where three security guards were stationed. The suspect reportedly tied up two of the guards and forced the female guard to accompany him into the clinic.
Inside, the assailant encountered two nurses, aged 47 and 28, and robbed them of their mobile phones. He then forced the nurses to a nearby bush, leaving the female guard unharmed.
“He instructed them to undress, s3xually assaulted them, and fled the scene. The nurses managed to walk back to the clinic and were transferred to a hospital for treatment,” Mashaba said.
Limpopo police commissioner, Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe, condemned the attack, calling it “inhumane and shocking.” She has ordered a specialized team to fast-track the investigation and ensure the suspect is arrested as soon as possible.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating the perpetrator.
