The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspects for hacking into the WhatsApp account of Deputy Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, head of the state’s Criminal Investigation Department, and defrauding his family and friends of over N1.1 million.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo identified the suspects as Tolani Jeremiah, 31, Akande Suru, 20, and Edwin Jatto, 24, who were arrested at their hideout in Edo State.The trio allegedly sent messages to DCP Ojajuni’s contacts, requesting urgent financial assistance, and deceived them into transferring funds to a Moniepoint account bearing the name Ichioma Ojo.
The police recovered six mobile phones, including a Redmi Android phone, and other devices used in the hacking operation. Investigations revealed that the suspects bypassed WhatsApp’s one-time password security system using a Gmail account.
In a separate case, the police paraded members of a child trafficking syndicate allegedly led by Mama Faith, who is currently in custody. Among those paraded were ThankGod Taiwo, 35, Patience Chikieze, 54, and Oluyinka Folake, 43, who were implicated in the abduction and sale of children for illegal adoption.
CP Ogunlowo warned criminals in the state to desist from illegal activities or face the full weight of the law, urging residents to support the police with timely intelligence to combat crime effectively.
