Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat valued at ₦200,000. The goat was reportedly used for the naming ceremony of Waris’s daughter.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred in the Odeda area of the state. Waris, along with his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, was arrested on January 2, 2025, after being linked to the theft.
Odutola explained that the suspects targeted a farm while its owner, identified only as Mark, had taken the cattle for grazing on December 25. Upon discovering the theft, a search was launched in the community, during which villagers reported seeing the suspects with the missing goat on a motorcycle heading toward Olodo town.
Acting on the tip-off, police detectives tracked and apprehended the suspects. During interrogation, the duo confessed to stealing and slaughtering the goat on December 27, 2024, to prepare food for the naming ceremony held at Olodo.
The suspects remain in custody at the Odeda Divisional Crime Branch as investigations continue. Odutola assured residents that the culprits would face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation, with updates on the case to be communicated in due course.
