Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on President Bola Tinubu to set a good example by using Nigeria’s health facilities for his medical examinations. Obi made this appeal at a press conference on the state of the nation in Abuja, emphasizing that this would encourage Nigerians to do the same and reduce medical tourism abroad.
Obi suggested that President Tinubu visit national hospitals or regional Federal Medical Centres, such as those in Sokoto, Birnin Kebbi, or Calabar, to assess the state of healthcare facilities available to Nigerians. This, he believes, would enable the President to make informed decisions on upgrading and making these facilities efficient.
The call comes amidst speculation that some of President Tinubu’s 42 trips abroad in the past 18 months may have been for medical reasons. Obi also urged the President to travel by road to observe the condition of highways and visit tertiary institutions to familiarize himself with the available infrastructure and facilities.
Additionally, Obi dismissed speculation about a merger arrangement with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria People’s Party, emphasizing that he has no established agreement with any political party yet. He rallied lovers of democracy to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
