Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been named THISDAY Man of the Year 2024, recognized for his resilience, bold leadership, and capacity to make tough decisions amid significant challenges.
The THISDAY Board of Editors, in their announcement, commended Tinubu’s courage and determination. “Whether lampooned as T-pain or lionised as T-gain, Tinubu could not be accused of lacking the courage to take tough decisions or the will to stay the course,” they stated.
The editors acknowledged that Tinubu’s governance style has room for improvement. “Without a doubt, his approach to reform and governance could benefit from more rigour, consultation, and inclusion, and his interventions could be better paced and executed,” they noted. Despite these challenges, the board emphasized his significant impact over the past year.
“It is difficult to argue that Tinubu did not earn his stripes as the most consequential Nigerian of 2024,” they remarked, highlighting his influence across various sectors.
Summing up the decision, the editorial noted, “By every note, caution, indication, and inaction, Tinubu has earned this recognition for his doggedness, resilience, and ability to take tough decisions even against the grain.”
