A devastating fire outbreak occurred at the Okokomaiko police station in Lagos, causing substantial damage to the station and surrounding buildings. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire started from a diesel tanker carrying 10,000 litres of fuel, which caught fire while supplying diesel to a network mast near the police station.
The fire quickly spread to nearby structures, engulfing offices in the police station, three bungalows, and parts of a nearby hotel. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the agency received distress calls at 12:38 hrs and promptly activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans. Emergency response teams, including LASEMA, LASTMA, the fire service, the Nigerian Army, and the police, worked together to contain the incident.
The cause of the fire has been attributed to negligence, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
