Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has presented a budgetary estimate of N1.188 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval. This figure represents a significant increase from the 2024 budget of N800 billion presented in 2023.
The 2025 budget, dubbed “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development,” aims to achieve sustainable economic growth, accelerate the development of the state, and improve the living standards of all residents. Fubara emphasized that the budget will strengthen the state’s capacity to weather external shocks from the national economy while building a resilient economy that advances collective development and prosperity.
Key Allocations:
Agriculture:* Nearly N31 billion has been allocated to support agricultural development, addressing food insecurity, and providing land preparation, farm inputs, and extension services to farmers ¹.
Education:* Over N63 billion (9.3% of the budget) has been proposed for education, focusing on rehabilitating public schools, providing free basic education, and improving learning outcomes.
Health:* N97.750 billion (14.4% of the budget) has been allocated to the health sector, aiming to complete zonal hospitals, provide quality healthcare services, and strengthen the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
Road and Transport Infrastructure:* Over N195 billion has been earmarked to complete ongoing road projects, initiate new ones, and modernize the public transport system.
Social Development and Investments:* N15.4 billion has been proposed to advance youth and gender empowerment, jobs and wealth creation, sports development, and social inclusion.
