BREAKING: Warri Refinery Begins Operations, Marks Milestone for Nigeria’s Oil Industry

The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), with a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, has officially resumed operations. This development was announced by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), during a tour of the facility on Monday.

Speaking to the team at the refinery, Kyari highlighted the significance of the achievement, stating, “This plant is operational. While it is not yet running at 100 percent capacity, we are actively in the process of completing it. Many have doubted such milestones could be achieved in Nigeria, but we want to demonstrate that this is real and happening.”

The resumption of operations at the Warri Refinery is seen as a critical step in addressing Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products and boosting local refining capacity. Kyari’s announcement underscores the commitment of NNPCL to revitalizing the country’s energy infrastructure and delivering tangible results in the oil and gas sector.

This milestone signals hope for the nation’s industrial growth and economic resilience, as stakeholders eagerly anticipate the full operational capacity of the refinery.
