A tragic accident occurred on Sunday in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, involving the convoy of Governor Hyacinth Alia. According to sources, the accident resulted in the death of one person and left another injured. The incident happened when one of the vehicles in the convoy veered off the road due to poor visibility caused by dust from the untarred road and collided with a motorcycle.
The governor’s vehicle was reportedly heading to church, followed by other vehicles in the convoy, when the accident occurred. Solomon Iorpev, the Technical Adviser to the governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, confirmed that the vehicle involved was part of the governor’s convoy but claimed it was on a solo mission when the accident happened. Iorpev attributed the cause of the accident to the dusty road and an oncoming vehicle, which forced the convoy vehicle to swerve and hit the motorcycle.
Although Iorpev did not comment on the casualties, he expressed regret over the incident. Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, stated that the case had not been reported to the command. This incident is not the first time a governor’s convoy has been involved in an accident in Benue State.
