A group of police officers from Courses 33, 34, and 35 of the Police Academy have urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in their reinstatement, following an alleged unfair retirement. The officers claim they were forced into retirement without consideration for their years of service and have since secured a judgment from the National Industrial Court of Nigeria ordering their reinstatement.
Despite the court’s directive, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has yet to comply, prompting the officers to write to President Tinubu through their lawyer, Olatoye Adejola. The letter expresses deep concerns about the IGP’s failure to implement the court’s judgment and regularize the officers’ dates of appointment.
The officers were initially ordered to report to Abuja in August 2024 for documentation, with the expectation of being reabsorbed into the force. However, after completing the documentation process, they received no further communication from the police authorities, leaving them confused and in dismay.
The officers are now calling on President Tinubu to direct the IGP to expedite action on their reinstatement, as ordered by the court. They urge the President to use his office to ensure compliance with the court’s judgment and restore their rights as police officers.
