Sanwo-Olu Approves Establishment of Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has given the green light for the establishment of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, a move aimed at boosting the state’s energy sector. This development comes on the heels of the governor’s signing of the Lagos Electricity Bill 2024 into law earlier in December.

The newly formed commission, which is subject to confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, will focus on creating a sustainable and innovative energy framework for the state. Its primary objective is to transform the state’s energy landscape and ensure a reliable power supply.

As part of the commission’s setup, Governor Sanwo-Olu has also approved key appointments to drive the commission’s mandate. The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission is expected to play a crucial role in regulating the state’s electricity market, overseeing licensing, and developing tariffs.

This move is seen as a significant step towards advancing the state’s energy sector, and it’s expected to attract investment and promote private sector participation in the industry.
