Thirteen members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been killed by troops of the Joint Task Force South-East, “Operation UDO KA”, in a series of operations aimed at curbing insecurity in the region. Additionally, three kidnappers operating in the South East were arrested by the troops.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Umuahkalu, spokesperson for the task force, the troops ambushed kidnappers along Amouka-Umouka Road in 9th Mile, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State on December 21. The operation resulted in a gunfight, leading to the death of one suspected criminal and the recovery of an Ak-47 rifle, ammunition, and other items.
In another operation on December 16, troops killed three IPOB members in Mbosi and Isseke general areas in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra. Three Dane guns, AK-46 rifles, and several other items were recovered during the operation.
Furthermore, on December 14, three suspected kidnappers were arrested at Itungwa in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia, following a tip-off from members of the public.
Umuahkalu urged residents of the region to collaborate with security forces to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration. He reminded the public that security is a collective responsibility and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to the JTF Operation UDO KA’s toll-free line.
