NAFDAC Debunks Claim of Approving Herbal Tea to Reverse Smoking Effects

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed claims that it approved a herbal tea that can reverse the effects of smoking on smokers. A viral video on social media had alleged that NAFDAC gave its stamp of approval for the product, known as Lung Detox Tea or Lungitox (Smokers Pride).

However, NAFDAC has described this claim as “false and completely unfounded,” stating that the product is not registered with the agency. The agency’s Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola, revealed that a company had submitted an application for the product, but it was queried by NAFDAC’s Lagos Office Directorate and a Compliance Directive was issued. The company never resubmitted or responded to the query.

Akintola emphasized that NAFDAC does not allow the use of body organ images on registered products. He also noted that it is a criminal offense for manufacturers to put a fake NAFDAC registration number on their products.

NAFDAC has vowed to investigate the company and prosecute the culprits. The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that only safe, effective, and scientifically substantiated products are approved.
