Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has issued a warning about the dangers of misusing social media.
He advised people engaging in derogatory comments online to be prepared to justify their statements in court.
On Sunday, Senator Sani shared on his verified Facebook page:
“If you are using social media these days, just keep a lawyer close to you or make sure that you have evidence for anything you post or comment on.
If you have to call someone a bastard or call a lady a prostitute, just make sure you have the evidence to prove your claim.
“The number of people taken to court for libel or defamation is growing nowadays. And the lawyers will charge you so high before making an appearance in your defense. A stitch in time saves nine.”
He highlighted the rising cases of libel and defamation lawsuits stemming from social media comments and emphasized the financial burden such legal actions can impose, urging users to act responsibly.
