The Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has granted human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi bail in the sum of N50 million with a surety possessing landed property.
This development follows Farotimi’s arraignment on cybercrime charges stemming from his book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, where he accused Senior Advocate of Nigeria Afe Babalola of judicial corruption.
Babalola, in response, filed a petition prompting police investigations.
Farotimi, already facing 16 defamation counts in a magistrate court, was recently charged with 12 additional cybercrime offenses related to online statements about the book.
Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate in the 2023 election, shared the news on X, stating: “The first hurdle was crossed. #DeleFarotimi was granted bail of N50 million surety in the like sum with someone with landed property. The case was adjourned to January 29, 2025.”
