Segun Sowunmi, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, has revealed that the former Vice President is still weighing his options for the 2027 presidency. Sowunmi disclosed that he has asked Atiku twice about his plans, but the latter has remained tight-lipped, choosing instead to maintain a reflective mood.
Sowunmi expressed his deep admiration for Atiku, stating that he is a man he “loves with my bones.” He acknowledged that the burden of election is heavy and that Atiku’s past experiences, challenges, and betrayals warrant careful consideration before making a decision.
While Atiku’s body language suggests that he may be warming up to run for the presidency again, having unsuccessfully contested the position six times previously, Sowunmi emphasized that he does not engage in speculation. “I don’t do guess work,” he said, adding that when Atiku provides a clear answer, they will take it to the next level.
It is worth noting that there have been conflicting reports about Atiku’s intentions, with some sources suggesting that he may run again in 2027 ¹, while others indicate that he has dismissed rumors about planning for the next presidential election.
