Ikwerre Youths Back Rotimi Amaechi for Ohanaeze Ndigbo Leadership

The Ikwerre Youths Progressive Initiative (IYPI), a socio-cultural group, has called on former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to contest for the role of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

In a statement by the group’s National Leader, Barrister Cosmas Ozinyowe, the IYPI commended Amaechi’s leadership qualities, describing him as a transformative figure capable of redefining the Igbo identity and promoting unity among over 70 million Igbos globally.

Ozinyowe underscored Amaechi’s qualifications, referencing his governance experience and political acumen.

“The position of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo offers you a unique opportunity to lead with vision, redefine the Igbo identity in Nigeria’s political landscape, and pave the way for a united and prosperous Nigeria,” stated Ozinyowe. He praised Amaechi’s ability to bridge internal divides and amplify Igbo voices nationally. He further emphasized that Amaechi’s extensive experience as a two-term governor and minister makes him an ideal candidate for the position.

According to Ozinyowe, Amaechi’s tenure could capitalize on his relationships across the South-South, North, and West regions to enhance national unity. “Your relationships with other regional blocs will foster national unity through cultural exchanges, regional economic partnerships, and political dialogue,” he noted. The IYPI also lauded Amaechi’s contributions to governance and politics, recalling his instrumental role in the APC’s landmark victory in 2015. “As a political strategist, you have united diverse interests and delivered results against the odds. This is the caliber of leadership Ohanaeze needs,” Ozinyowe added.

The group expressed confidence that Amaechi’s leadership could address historical grievances, promote inclusive governance, and position Ohanaeze as a powerful force in Nigeria’s socio-political arena.

With a track record of fostering unity and achieving remarkable results in challenging circumstances, the IYPI believes Amaechi is uniquely equipped to transform the organization and elevate the Igbo identity both within Nigeria and globally. The group urged him to accept the call to serve and lead the Igbos into a more united future.
