In a recent interview with Sky News, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that a ceasefire with Russia may be on the horizon. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of joining NATO to secure the territory currently under Ukraine’s control, while also paving the way for diplomatic recovery of occupied territories .
Zelenskyy stated, “If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control.” He urged NATO to provide immediate support for Kyiv-controlled territories, highlighting the need for a ceasefire to prevent further aggression from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Ukrainian president also expressed his desire to work directly with newly elected US President Donald Trump, citing the need for a unified approach to addressing the conflict. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of finding a new model for cooperation, stating, “I want to share with him ideas and I want to hear from him” .
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to Ukraine, stating that Ukraine will eventually become a member of NATO. Rutte emphasized the importance of unity among NATO allies, saying, “We will not lose this will! And we will not lose that unity”.
