A devastating fire outbreak occurred at a spare parts market in the Idumota area of Lagos State on Friday, destroying property worth millions of naira. According to Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), preliminary investigations revealed that multiple buildings used as shops for car spare parts were razed in the fire incident .
The fire outbreak was reported to LASEMA via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 10:20 pm, prompting the activation of Emergency Response Teams from Lekki, Cappa, and the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. Upon arrival at the scene, the response teams found multiple buildings engulfed in flames .
Although the immediate cause of the fire incident is yet to be ascertained, properties and goods worth hundreds of millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported .
The LASEMA Response Teams, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Federal Fire Service collaborated to curtail the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings. Law enforcement agencies also implemented crowd control measures to ensure safety at the scene .
Efforts are ongoing to completely extinguish the fire, and recovery operations are still in progress. The “dampening down” process has commenced to stamp out remaining pockets of fire, and salvage operations for valuable properties in the recovered shops are ongoing.
