The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has approved a licence for the construction of a new refinery.
The licence was granted to Process Design and Development Limited to establish and construct a 27,000 barrels-per-day (BPD) refinery.
The refinery is to be located in Dole-Wure, Akko, Gombe State.
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Thursday, the authority said, “Authority Chief Executive presented a Licence to Establish a 27,000 BPSD Refinery to the Managing Director/CEO of Process Design and Development Limited.
“The refinery is to be located in Dole-Wure, Akko, Gombe State.”
This new approval increases the number of modular and regular refineries in Nigeria to about 10, further boosting the nation’s refining capacity.
However, despite the increase in numbers, many of these refineries are either non-functional or not operating at full capacity.
Background checks conducted using NG.Checks revealed that the company, Process Design and Development Limited, is registered in Kano under registration number 487883.
The directors of the company are listed as Adamu U. Sanda, Abdulkadir Umar, Umar S. Umar, and Bashir Umar.
This development reflects ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s local refining capacity amid challenges in the sector.
