The Enugu State Police Command has arrested Samuel Nnamani, the principal suspect in the alleged murder of late Chief Osita Okoye, President General of the Amafor Community, Ugbawka, Nkanu East. Nnamani was apprehended on Friday at his hiding place in Markurdi, Benue State.
According to SaharaReporters, Nnamani, who is the deputy president general of the community, had invited late Okoye for a meeting where he was murdered. The assassination, which occurred on October 6, 2024, was connected to the traditional stool, with Okoye seen as an obstacle.
The Enugu State Police Command, in collaboration with the Igbo community in Benue State, tracked down Nnamani, who had been hiding in Markurdi. He was handed over to the Benue State Police Command and later picked up by detectives from the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department.
A human rights organization, Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN), commended the police for the arrest, describing it as a “positive development.” The organization urged the state government and police command to ensure a thorough and prompt investigation, bringing the killers to justice.
CRRAN President Olu Omotayo stated, “We commend the State Government for its zero-tolerance to criminality. We also commend the State Police Command and the members of Igbo Community in Markurdi, who made the arrest of the suspect possible.”
