Kaduna Refinery’s Quick Fix Project to Be Completed by End of 2024, Says KRPC MD

The Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), Dr. Mustafa Sugungun, has stated that the Quick Fix Project for the Kaduna refinery is set to be completed by the end of 2024.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had earlier awarded a $741 million contract to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction to rehabilitate the refinery. The project aims to restore production at the 110,000 barrels-per-day facility to at least 60% of its capacity by the end of 2024.

Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated Rido Community Primary School and a solar-powered borehole in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State, as part of KRPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, Dr. Sugungun emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting its host communities. Represented by Manager Operations, Mr. Emmanuel Ajiboye, he highlighted the economic benefits the Quick Fix Project would bring, including job creation, boosted petty trading, and support for local businesses.

The renovated school aims to provide a better learning environment for pupils and teachers, while the borehole will help address water scarcity in the community. Dr. Sugungun reaffirmed KRPC’s dedication to sustainable development through initiatives such as youth empowerment, rural electrification, medical outreach, and other community-focused programs.

He urged the Rido community to support the Quick Fix Project, stating its success would strengthen the relationship between KRPC and its host communities.

The Head Teacher of Rido Primary School, Mrs. Rachael Aduwak, praised KRPC for the gesture but appealed for more support. She requested the construction of a perimeter fence and additional classroom furniture, stating, “We appeal to KRPC to furnish our classes with tables, chairs, and chalkboards as most of our students are sitting on bare floors during class hours.”
