The absence of Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has delayed the hearing of a N50 billion lawsuit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Federal Government.
The case, originally scheduled for Monday, could not proceed as Justice Ekwo was on official duty in another division of the court. The matter has now been adjourned to February 11, 2025, for further mention.
During a prior hearing, Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, informed the court of a notice for a change of counsel. He stated that he would be taking over the case from Mike Ozekhome, who initially filed the suit on April 7, 2022.
Kanu is suing the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) as the 1st and 2nd defendants. The suit alleges violations of his rights, claiming he was unlawfully abducted from Kenya and forcibly brought to Nigeria to face trial.
He seeks a court ruling on “whether the way in which he was abducted in Kenya and extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria is consistent with extant laws.”
