DHL Cargo Plane Crashes Near Vilnius Airport, Killing One and Setting House Ablaze

A tragic incident occurred early Monday when a DHL cargo plane flying from Germany to Lithuania crashed just kilometers from Vilnius International Airport, claiming the life of one crew member and setting a nearby house on fire, according to Lithuanian authorities.

The aircraft, carrying a four-member crew, went down under unclear circumstances near the Lithuanian capital. Renatas Pozela, head of the firefighting and emergency services unit, confirmed the fatality, stating that three crew members survived the crash.

The accident ignited a house close to the crash site, prompting emergency evacuations. Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Crisis Management Centre, assured that all residents were safely removed from the burning home.

Images from the scene reveal the wreckage of the cargo plane sprawled across the courtyard of the damaged property. Law enforcement officers and rescue teams are working to secure the area and investigate the cause of the crash.

Ausra Rutkauskien, an official spokesperson for DHL, confirmed ownership of the ill-fated plane. The company is expected to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation into the incident.

This tragedy marks a grim start to the week for Lithuania, as aviation authorities and emergency response teams collaborate to uncover the circumstances that led to the crash.

Further updates will follow as investigations progress.
