The Catholic community in Nigeria is mourning the loss of Monsignor Thomas Oleghe, the country’s most senior Catholic Reverend Father, who passed away at the age of 104.
According to a statement by Bishop Gabriel G. Dunia of the Auchi Diocese of Edo State, Monsignor Oleghe died at approximately 2:30 am on November 24, 2024.
The statement read, “With gratitude to God for a life well lived on earth, I hereby inform you of the passage of the Rt. Rev. MSGR Thomas Oleghe, the oldest Catholic priest in Nigeria, to the great beyond.”
Monsignor Oleghe had a distinguished career, serving in various parishes, including St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, Igarra, where he initiated reforms that transformed the church.
His funeral is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
