In a bold move to curb the rising trend of alcohol consumption among youth, the Yobe State Hisbah Board has destroyed over 170 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued at N450,000 in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area. The confiscation occurred during a patrol led by Hisbah officials at a local hotel in Gashua, resulting in the arrest and imprisonment of a vendor associated with the sales.
Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, who led the operation, emphasized the Hisbah’s resolve to combat alcohol use among youth, citing its harmful effects on mental clarity and its contradiction to Islamic teachings. “The council is resolute in combating this immoral act to safeguard our community from its harmful consequences,” Yurema stated.
The destruction of the alcoholic beverages was directed by a Sharia Court in the state, which found the alcohol seller guilty and sentenced him to prison. Malam Isah Ibrahim, Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board for Yobe North, revealed that the court’s ruling prompted the confiscation and destruction of the seized whisky.
This move by the Yobe State Hisbah Board is part of a broader effort to promote moral values and protect the well-being of the community, particularly among young people. With alcohol consumption on the rise, the Hisbah Board’s actions aim to send a strong message against this harmful behavior.
