In a shocking turn of events, Lukman Adeleye, Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, was taken into military custody on Saturday while casting his vote at Ward 15 in Ibefun, Odogbolu Local Government Area. The abduction, allegedly carried out by military personnel, has sparked outrage and concerns about the integrity of the local government election.
According to Hon. Olujimi Oloja, Director-General of Adeleye’s campaign organization, the lawmaker is currently being held at the Ilese barracks. Oloja condemned the military’s interference in the election, calling it a direct attack on democratic principles. Despite efforts to secure Adeleye’s release, military officials insist that he will remain detained until the electoral process is concluded.
Adeleye, a prominent advocate for education, has held various roles within the PDP, including serving as Local Government Organising Secretary. His commitment to community development and education has earned him recognition, and his detention has raised concerns about the use of intimidation and force during elections.
As the situation unfolds, concerns about the safety and well-being of Adeleye and the integrity of the electoral process continue to grow.
