The Nigerian government has announced the arrival of 148 Nigerians who were repatriated from Niger Republic. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) revealed in a statement on Thursday that the returnees were brought back on Tuesday.
The statement clarified that the returnees arrived at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Cargo Terminal, at around 2:15 PM on Skymali flight ER-CTZ. NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office (LTO) received the group, in collaboration with key partners including the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Among the returnees, there were 120 adult males, nine adult females, 10 male children, seven female children, and two infants. The statement explained that “due to heavy rain, there was a brief delay in moving the returnees from the aircraft.” Once the weather cleared, Nigerian Immigration Service officials arrived, and aircraft handlers provided buses to transport the returnees to the biometric registration center for documentation.
Other organizations involved included representatives from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), IOM, and FAAN. The repatriation process was supported by these agencies to ensure the safe and proper arrival of the Nigerians from Niger Republic.
