Abia State Government Declares Free and Compulsory Education

In a significant move to boost education in the state, the Abia State government has announced free and compulsory education for all children, regardless of their state of origin. This policy, set to commence by January 2025, will provide free education from primary one to Junior Secondary School three in all public schools.

Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, emphasized that parents and guardians who fail to comply with the new policy will face prosecution. “Education is free in Abia State up to the end of Junior Secondary School. There is no reason whatsoever why parents will not send their children to school,” Kanu stated.

In addition to the free education policy, the government has also awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of nine additional roads in different parts of the state. While details of the new road projects are yet to be disclosed, this development is expected to improve infrastructure and accessibility in the state.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to revamp the education sector, which has been a priority since the administration’s inception. By providing free and compulsory education, Abia State aims to foster and environment where everyone can fully enjoy life.
