The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has provided an update on the national grid collapse that occurred on Thursday, November 7, 2024. According to TCN, the disturbance was caused by a sudden rise in frequency triggered by issues at one of its substations.
TCN’s swift response ensured electricity supply was restored in some parts of the country within 28 minutes of the incident.
The company attributed the frequency spike to ongoing repair works on:
1. Shiroro-Mando transmission lines
2. Jebba Transmission Substation upgrades
3. Restoration of the second Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line
TCN warned that some degree of instability may persist until these major works are completed.
TCN regrets the disruptions and appeals for consumers’ understanding and patience. The company remains committed to improving the reliability of electricity supply.
“We are working tirelessly to complete the ongoing projects, which will enhance the stability and reliability of the national grid.”
