In a significant crackdown on oil theft, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have confiscated large amounts of stolen crude oil in Abia and Rivers states . The operation took place at the river boundaries of Odagwa in Rivers State and Owaza in Abia State, where a newly constructed large wooden boat was used for the illicit activity.
According to the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS), the stolen crude oil was being illegally tapped from an installed transmission line and packaged inside cellophane nylons for illegal transportation. The CG SIS statement revealed that the wooden boat was specifically designed for this purpose.
This seizure is a major blow to oil thieves in the region and demonstrates the NSCDC’s commitment to combating oil theft. The operation also highlights the ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and ensure the safe and legal transportation of oil in Nigeria.
