Dangote Refinery Defends Petrol Prices Amidst Controversy

Dangote Refinery has revealed its petrol prices, selling at N990 per litre for trucks and N960 per litre for ships, amidst claims by independent marketers that they can import the product at cheaper rates.

In a statement signed by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Refinery clarified that its prices are benchmarked against international rates and follow the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) pricing guidelines.

Chiejina emphasized that importing petrol at lower prices would necessitate compromising on quality, posing health and environmental risks to Nigerians. He also highlighted the absence of laboratory facilities at regulatory bodies to detect substandard products.

The statement further noted that Dangote Refinery’s pricing is competitive and aims to provide affordable, high-quality petroleum products domestically, supporting Nigeria’s economic growth and job creation.

The development has sparked debate among industry stakeholders, with some calling for greater transparency in pricing and others supporting Dangote Refinery’s commitment to quality and domestic production.

As the controversy unfolds, regulators and industry players are urged to prioritize Nigeria’s energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
