Manchester United has dismissed manager Erik ten Hag after two and a half years in charge.
The decision was communicated to the Dutchman by the club’s board on Monday morning, just a day after a disappointing 2-1 loss to West Ham.
In light of this, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the coaching staff last summer as Ten Hag’s assistant, has been appointed as interim head coach while the search for a permanent replacement begins.
The defeat against West Ham left Manchester United struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, having secured only three victories from their first nine matches.
Additionally, they sit 21st out of 36 teams in the Europa League standings.
An official statement from the club expressed gratitude to Ten Hag for his contributions and extended well wishes for his future endeavors.
Van Nistelrooy will lead the team with support from the current coaching staff until a new head coach is appointed.
