Benue State Governor Suspends Attorney General Over EFCC Suit

 

Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has suspended the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, indefinitely. The suspension was announced at a press conference at Government House, following the Benue State Executive Council meeting.

The governor explained that Barr. Mnyim’s decision to join a suit challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) without permission led to the suspension ¹. Alia emphasized that no appointee is allowed to act unilaterally, especially in sensitive matters.

Alia stated that his administration is working to hold accountable those who embezzled state funds, with the EFCC and ICPC assisting in the effort. He questioned how he could challenge these agencies, given their role in combating corruption.
