French President Emmanuel Macron warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel’s creation was facilitated by a 1947 UN decision, partitioning Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. Macron emphasized Israel’s need to abide by UN decisions, amidst tensions over Gaza and Lebanon conflicts. He advocated for a ceasefire and arms embargo to stop conflicts.
Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant rebuked Macron, calling his actions a “disgrace” and “hostile policy” towards Israel. They argued Israel’s existence resulted from the War of Independence, not UN decisions, and criticized the UN’s alleged anti-Israel bias.
Netanyahu stated, “It was not a UN decision that established the State of Israel, but the victory achieved in the War of Independence with the blood of our heroic fighters.” Gallant added, “France has adopted a hostile policy towards the Jewish people; we’ll defend our nation against enemies with or without France.”
