Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the recent national grid collapse as a “national shame” and evidence of leadership failure. Nigeria’s electricity sector experienced two grid collapses within 24 hours, leaving millions without power.
The national grid first collapsed on Monday at 6:18 pm, with power generation falling to 0.00MW. The Eko Electricity Distribution Company confirmed a second collapse on Tuesday at 09:17 am.
Obi criticized the recurring disasters, asking how long Nigerians must endure a system that fails to provide basic necessities. “This recurring disaster is a national shame and a glaring testament to the failure of leadership and policy implementation,” he stated.
