Self acclaimed online police, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, has apologized to human rights lawyer Femi Falana for derogatory innuendos. Otse appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, clarifying his stance.
He expressed disbelief in Femi Falana’s involvement in alleged bribery with Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigeria Correctional Service.
“Apparently now, some people are taking advantage of what is going to target Femi Falana. Here I apologize, it’s so sad that his name was inside that audio, I couldn’t believe as well; that is the part that irritated me more which I said I refuse to believe that he is a party to something like that.”
Otse shared audio of Bobrisky claiming she bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky also alleged her “godfather” and Nigerian Correctional Service Controller-General Haliru Nababa ensured she served her sentence in a private apartment.
Otse initially accused Falana of seeking a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million. However, Falana’s legal team denied this in a letter dated September 25, 2024.
Taiwo E. Olawanle from Falana & Falana’s Chambers stated, “He [Falana] never spoke to Bobrisky about any alleged pardon or other matters.”
Otse now calls for a thorough investigation, emphasizing no intention to defame Falana.
The controversy surrounds Bobrisky’s alleged bribery and special treatment. VDM’s apology and clarification aim to address the harm caused to Falana’s reputation.
