Federal civil servants will start receiving the new minimum wage payment from Thursday, September 26, 2024, according to Bawa Mokwa, Spokesperson of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
Mokwa an exclusive interview with DAILY POST, stated:
“Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today (Thursday) this September 2024. What I can tell you is that the minimum wage salary payment is today; I am not sure of the arrears.”
This development follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the N70,000 minimum wage on July 18, 2024, and the Senate’s subsequent passage of the bill into law.
Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, confirmed the government’s approval of the consolidated public service salary structure review, aligning with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The payment marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the new minimum wage, aiming to improve the welfare of federal civil servants.
Workers will begin receiving alerts for their new salary payment starting Thursday. However, clarity on arrears payment remains pending.
