The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied reports that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is in their custody.
“Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect,” the commission stated.
Bello remains wanted for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, with a subsisting warrant for his arrest still in place.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, issued the clarification on September 18, 2024.
Bello’s whereabouts have been subject to speculation, but the EFCC’s statement confirms he has not been apprehended.
The commission initially declared Bello wanted, but his current location remains unknown. The EFCC’s warrant for his arrest remains active.
The development underscores the ongoing efforts to bring Bello to justice for the alleged financial crimes.
