The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are planning to manipulate the upcoming Edo State elections by importing non-indigenes to vote.
According to the APC New Media Directorate, credible intelligence reveals that Governor Obaseki is mobilizing individuals from bus parks across the state, particularly from the North, to flood polling units and disenfranchise legitimate APC supporters.
“This sinister plot aims to corrupt the electoral process and undermine the integrity of the elections,” said Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Director of the APC New Media Directorate. “We will not tolerate any attempts to import voters or deny the people of Edo their right to freely and fairly choose their leaders.”
The APC has condemned the alleged tactic as “brazen and undemocratic” and warned Governor Obaseki and the PDP to cease the scheme or face legal consequences.
“We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to act swiftly in monitoring these developments and ensuring that no external interference jeopardizes the sanctity of the vote,” Omo-Ikirodah added.
The APC has urged the people of Edo to remain vigilant and protect their votes, saying “democracy will not be subverted on our watch.”
Governor Obaseki and the PDP have yet to respond to the allegations. The elections are expected to be closely contested, with the APC fielding Senator Monday Okpebholo and Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa as its candidates.
The APC has reiterated its commitment to a free, fair, and credible election, saying “the people of Edo and the nation are watching closely.”
