INEC ACKNOWLEDGES MISTAKES IN 2023 POLLS, VOWS IMPROVEMENT IN EDO ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has conceded that mistakes were made during the 2023 elections, but assures Nigerians that valuable lessons have been learned and necessary corrections have been implemented to ensure a smoother process in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.

In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, acknowledged that technology, although beneficial, is not infallible and can experience downtime, citing examples of global tech companies like Facebook and Instagram.

Oyekanmi emphasized that INEC has corrected the glitches that marred previous elections and is confident in its preparedness for the Edo election, stating, “We are ready for the Edo election. We have learned our lessons.”

This assurance comes as a relief to Nigerians who have been skeptical about INEC’s ability to conduct credible elections. With the Edo governorship election on the horizon, INEC’s commitment to improvement is crucial in restoring public trust in the electoral process.
