Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away. According to sources, he died on Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, after undergoing prostate cancer surgery the previous day. The family confirmed his death, expressing their sadness at the loss of their “friend, brother, and family.”
A senior police officer in Akwa Ibom State also confirmed Ayilara’s passing, speaking on condition of anonymity. Ayilara had previously served as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023, taking over from AIG Idowu Owohunwa. He was later deployed to head the Akwa Ibom State Command by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in February 2024.
