The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four suspects in Akwa Ibom for alleged vandalism and illegal mining activities. Two suspects were apprehended for conveying 1,200 bags of suspected iron ore without a mining license or genuine waybill, while the other two were caught vandalizing power transmission lines in Ikot Akpan Okop village.
NSCDC state commandant, Mr. Eluyemi Eluwade, revealed that the arrests were made following intelligence reports and swift mobilization by operatives. The suspects confessed to vandalizing transmission lines to sell as scrap, and the commandant condemned such acts as economic sabotage, depriving governments of revenue.
Eluwade reiterated the Corps’ commitment to combating crimes and assured that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. The NSCDC is determined to fight vandalism and illegal mining to a standstill in Akwa Ibom.
