The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Leilani Bin-Juda, recently met with the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake, to strengthen bilateral relations in the mining sector. Bin-Juda invited Dr. Alake to attend the African Down Under conference in Perth, Australia, from September 4-6, 2024. The conference offers opportunities for Nigerian professionals to benefit from short courses in mining hosted by Australian institutions, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
The meeting also discussed the introduction of a new platform developed by Geoscience Australia, designed to track and monitor mining activities across Africa using satellite data. The platform provides free, high-quality training and real-time data access, potentially revolutionizing Nigeria’s mining operations management.
Both parties expressed commitment to fostering stronger ties, with Bin-Juda planning to visit Dr. Alake again after the conference to continue collaboration and partnership. Dr. Alake reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen its relationship with Australia in the solid minerals sector.
