Nigeria has witnessed a mixed trend in crime rates across different regions in 2023, according to the latest crime report released by the Ministry of Police Affairs.
The report shows that the North West region saw a significant decrease in major crimes, dropping from 2,664 in 2022 to 1,527 in 2023. Similarly, the South West, South East, and South South regions also experienced a decline in crime rates, with totals of 703, 624, and 588 respectively.
However, the North Central and North East regions saw an increase in crime rates, with totals of 1,236 and 969 respectively.
“The decrease in crime rates in some regions is a testament to the efforts of our security agencies,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Police Affairs. “However, we remain concerned about the increase in crime rates in other regions and will continue to work to address the root causes of crime and improve security measures across the country.”
The report highlights the need for sustained efforts to address crime and improve security in Nigeria.
