The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the release of eight corps members kidnapped while traveling from Uyo to Sokoto. Director-General YD Ahmed confirmed their freedom during a press briefing, emphasizing the scheme’s commitment to prioritizing members’ welfare and security.
Ahmed recounted the incident, which occurred on August 17, 2024, when the corps members were abducted on the Funtua-Bisau Road in Zamfara State. He highlighted the collaborative efforts with security agencies, including the Army, Police, DSS, and traditional rulers, as well as a meeting with the Zamfara State governor, which ultimately led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped members.
The NYSC Director-General seized the opportunity to caution corps members against traveling at night, stressing the importance of prioritizing their safety and security.
