Two suspects, Mustapha Bello and Damilare Oladele, were apprehended by Amotekun personnel for desecrating a grave and removing a human head in Ibadan, Oyo State. During their interrogation, they confessed to receiving a payment of N5,000 for each operation.
Mustapha Bello, a 32-year-old carpenter, revealed that he was introduced to the illicit activity by a security guard named Saheed. Bello stated, “I’m an Ibadan indigene living at Labo area. It is true that I went with my partner to exhume dead body and remove the head at Amuloko area.” He further explained that Saheed would sell the head and give him N5,000 as his share.
Damilare Oladele, a 25-year-old barber, also confessed to his involvement in the crime. He said, “Mustapha discussed the matter with me… He told me we were going to get a human head… He promised me N5,000 as my share.” Oladele revealed that they would typically carry out their operations at night, hiding until midnight before exhuming the grave and removing the head.
The suspects’ mode of operation involved hiding the head and waiting until dawn to return home. Oladele stated, “He was the one who would take the head to the buyer… After he had been paid, he would give me N5,000 as my share… I have worked with him five times.” He also mentioned that they received N10,000 for one operation involving a freshly buried corpse.
Oladele was caught after a video of Bello’s arrest was posted online, leading a security agent to identify him as Bello’s accomplice. He was subsequently handed over to Amotekun for investigation. The suspects’ confession has shed light on the gruesome activities of a gang involved in selling human heads in Ibadan.
